BFSG & WCAG

Accessible Websites

Since June 28, 2025, accessibility is a legal requirement for many websites — and a competitive edge for all the others.

We audit, fix and build websites to WCAG 2.1 AA and EN 301 549 — the standards behind Germany's Accessibility Act (BFSG) and the European Accessibility Act. Pragmatic, documented and without making your site ugly.

Accessible Websites

Why accessibility — and why now?

The BFSG, Germany's implementation of the European Accessibility Act, has been in force since June 28, 2025. It obliges many B2C businesses — especially online shops and consumer services — to make their digital offerings accessible.

Legal obligation

The BFSG applies to many B2C websites and shops. Market surveillance authorities can demand fixes, and violations can result in fines — waiting is the expensive option.

A bigger audience

Millions of people in Germany live with visual, motor or cognitive impairments — and everyone benefits from accessible sites, from older users to people on a phone in bright sunlight.

Better SEO and usability

Semantic structure, alt texts, clear contrast and keyboard operability overlap heavily with what search engines and all users reward.

Trust and brand

An accessible website signals professionalism and inclusion — increasingly a criterion in B2B procurement and public tenders, too.

What you get

Accessibility audit

A structured review against WCAG 2.1 AA / EN 301 549 — automated checks plus manual testing, with findings prioritized by severity.

Remediation of existing sites

Contrast, keyboard navigation, focus states, alt texts, form labels, ARIA — fixed in your existing system without a full rebuild.

Accessible new builds

New websites designed and built accessible from the first wireframe — cheaper than retrofitting, better than any patch.

Accessibility statement

The declaration your site needs under the BFSG, prepared from real test results — not a copy-paste template.

Editor guidelines & training

Your team learns how to keep content accessible: headings, alt texts, link labels, documents — so compliance survives the next edit.

Ongoing checks

Optional periodic re-testing so new features and content don't quietly reintroduce barriers.

How we work

1

Audit

Automated and manual testing of your key pages and flows — including screen reader and keyboard-only runs.

2

Prioritization

Findings ranked by severity and effort: blockers for assistive technologies first, cosmetic issues later.

3

Implementation

Fixes in design, code and content — in close coordination so brand and conversion don't suffer.

4

Verification

Re-testing with the same methods, including assistive technologies — fixed means verified, not assumed.

5

Documentation & monitoring

Accessibility statement, test documentation and, if you want, scheduled re-checks as your site evolves.

What does accessibility cost?

Individual quote

The price depends on site size, the number of templates and interactive components, and whether we remediate an existing site or build accessible from scratch. You get a fixed-price quote after the audit scoping — no obligation.

Frequently asked questions

The BFSG primarily covers B2C offerings: online shops and electronically provided consumer services. Microenterprises with fewer than ten employees and at most 2 million euros in annual turnover are exempt for services. We give you a practical assessment of your case — and for a binding legal evaluation we recommend consulting your lawyer.
